Benign Fibroepithelial Polyps: A Rare Cause of Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction in Children
FEPs are rare, benign mucosal growths that may cause urinary tract obstruction in both adults and children. We present the case of a ten year old Hispanic male with recurring urinary tract infections and hydronephrosis diagnosed with fibroepithelial polyps (FEPs). Despite multiple radiographic procedures, we were unable to accurately preoperatively diagnose FEPs. Here we demonstrate the difficu...

Ureteral fibroepithelial polyp is an unusual benign tumor of a mesodermal origin. It is very rare in infants and children, and the majority of them, excluding ones secondary to chronic irritation, were presented as a single disease without associated lesion. We report a case of multiple ureteral fibroepithelial polyps associated with ureteropelvic junction obstruction in a 5 year-old boy.

Ureteropelvic junction UPJ obstruction is caused by the presence of an aperistaltic dysplastic segment at the UPJ. Besides this intrinsic etiology, extrinsic factors, mainly crossing vessels, maybe the causative factor. The controversy regarding the functional significance of vessels crossing at the UPJ is not a new one, though this debate has been resurrected in recent years because of improve...
متن کاملLaparoscopic Anderson-Hynes procedure as a treatment of ureteropelvic junction obstruction caused by fibroepithelial polyp
Fibroepithelial polyps (FEPs) are rare benign ureteral neoplasms of mesodermal origin. As an intrinsic cause of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) they are very uncommon. Excretory urography and diuretic renography used by many urologists to diagnose a UPJO may not detect the ureteral polyp. We present a case of ureteropelvic junction obstruction caused by a fibroepithelial polyp, which ...
